Marian was born on May 19, 1934, in Valley City, North Dakota. Her parents moved following WWII jobs to Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, Idaho, Spokane and Pasco, WA, and then to Lakeridge in the Seattle/Renton, Washington area. She graduated from Renton High School in 1952. She met William (Bill) McCready at Renton Roller Skating Rink and was married to him in 1953 at age 19; they raised their family in the Renton Highlands.
Marian accepted Christ at a young age and was a member at the Renton Lakeridge Lutheran Church. She volunteered on committees and the ladies' group, sewing quilted blankets and donating them to charities. In her later years, she made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren to enjoy and cherish.
Marian retired in 1995 from Boeing Aerospace after 27 years and raising her six children. Her career at Boeing Renton plant was with the Engineering Change Control Department as a Lead Typist. She experienced several new airplane roll-out celebrations. A limo picked her and her family up to attend her retirement celebration party. Growing up in Renton, she often enjoyed visiting Lake Washington, Liberty Park, and Pine Lake. She also traveled to Mt. Rainier, Lake Chelan, Eastern Washington, Washington and Oregon coasts, California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Wisconsin and an Alaskan Cruise. She purchased a driving trailer for some of her memorable vacations with her family.
Family was very important to Marian. She helped plan the annual Nelson family summer picnics and Christmas Lefse parties. Her family celebrated her yearly birthdays mostly in her lovely backyard with her favorite food, Alaskan King Salmon BBQ. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her family enjoyed spending time with her. She was a wonderful cook; she enjoyed preparing meals to share and she always had warm cookies in the cookie jar for the family. She loved her pet dogs and our family dogs, she always had treats for them. Marian was a participant in a Longitudinal study conducted by the UW, which began with her mother, Daisy, measuring mental skills as people age, and at the age of 90, she was still very sharp mentally. She dressed up in very stylish outfits with jewelry and lovely hair styles. She often received compliments on how youthful she looked. She always had a passion for dance, country music, gardening, baking, and walking at the park.
In April 2019, Marian moved to Merrill Gardens Assisted Living Retirement Home in Renton, Washington, where she lived to age 90. She remained active throughout her life; her hobbies were bowling, playing bingo, sewing quilts, coloring, music, puzzles, card games, and reading novels.
May she rest in peace. She lives on in our hearts and prayers forever!
