Marilyn Rae (Schiltz) (Schroeder) Bushong, 93, of Renton, WA passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026. She was born in Highmore, SD to Dewey and Florence (McClure) Schiltz. She was raised on the family farm near Wolsey, SD and her early years were spent surrounded by her siblings (Bruce, Boyd/Tom & Marlene Schiltz) and a large extended family. She graduated from high school in 1950. Marilyn married Waldo Schroeder in 1951 and had 3 sons, Gary (1952), Gordon, (1954), and Tim (1956). In 1957, Marilyn became a widow at the young age of 25 when Waldo died unexpectedly following a farming accident during the autumn harvest season. In 1961, Marilyn married Joseph Bushong of Huron, SD. In 1962 their son, Wynn Joseph was born and the family moved to Renton, Washington where Joe went to work for The Boeing Company. Their daughter, Sandra was born in 1969. Marilyn and Joe were married for 47 years until Joe’s death in 2008.
Marilyn was dearly loved in her community, where the family attended Cross & Crown Lutheran Church for decades. She was dedicated to serving others through the church and was a dearly loved neighbor and “second mother” to many. Her strong faith was her compass and her giving spirit was evident in all she did. She was a Godly example to her family and friends, and she loved her care team at the Chateau at Valley Center. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn is survived by her 5 children Gary Schroeder, (Galt, CA), Gordon/Marsha Schroeder (Black Diamond, WA), Tim/Hollie Schroeder, (Sammamish WA), Wynn/Shannon Bushong (East Wenatchee, WA), Sandra Hubbard (East Wenatchee, WA); 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
