Marilyn was born on June 29, 1928 in Osceola, Wisconsin to her parents Herman Hanson and Barbara Hackman Hanson and grew up on a dairy farm in Dresser, WI. She started school at age 5 in a 1-room schoolhouse.
She graduated high school in 1945, went on to business school, and then worked several office jobs. She married George Wittrock in 1950. George was an aviation mechanic in the US Navy, stationed in Minneapolis. The Wittrock’s first lived in an apartment in St. Paul, then bought a house in Bloomington, MN. Marilyn continued office work until their first child then changed her focus to home & family. In 1961 the Wittrock’s were relocated to the Seattle area by the Navy, where they inherited a house near Renton. George retired from the Navy, went to work for Boeing & they never moved again.
Marilyn & George were very active with their church; St. Anthony’s and especially their senior group called The Antonians where they made many life-long friends. Marilyn had a passion for cooking, and for a time had a small business making custom cakes – her wedding cakes were delicious and highly sought after! She also loved antiques, both collecting and restoring.
Marilyn was the loving heart of her family & often admonished us to take care of each other. The house was filled with her decorations for every possible holiday - especially Christmas when every room was adorned to the hilt! She was legendary for her Spritz cookies & Swedish Cream Wafers at Christmas and for her Bunny cakes at Easter. She also enjoyed sharing the beautiful Pacific Northwest on many family camping trips.
Mrs. Wittrock is survived by her brother, Gary Hanson of Centuria, WI; her son Steven & daughter-in-law Irene Wittrock of Des Moines, WA; her son Paul Wittrock of Carnation, WA & partner Felicia Wibowo of Seattle, WA; daughter Carol Wittrock-Gold & son-in-law Rick Gold of southern CA; son Charles Wittrock & daughter-in-law Sherry Wittrock of Maple Valley, WA; daughter Teresa Majesky & son-in-law Mark Majesky of Bothell, WA; son Michael Wittrock & partner Jen Rozler of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Jana, Katie, Erik & Alex. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her brother, Donald Hanson & her sister, Joan Anderson.
A memorial mass was held at St. Anthony’s church in Renton on December 15th, 2017. Mrs. Wittrock was buried at Tahoma National Cemetery with her husband George.
She was loved very much and will be missed by all!
