Marlys Yvonne Vincent Walker, a cherished and selfless soul, passed away on January 5th, 2024, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones. She bravely fought breast cancer and was surrounded by her family during her final moments, at the remarkable age of 93.
Born on June 11, 1930 in the town of Maddock, North Dakota, Marlys graduated from Maddock High School in 1947 and continued to pursue her education at Minot State College. In 1950, she completed her standard degree in Education and later went on to obtain a Bachelor's of Arts in Education from the University of Puget Sound in Washington State in 1969.
Marlys married Robert "Bob" Walker in the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, North Dakota, on October 11th, 1951, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that would span nearly seven decades. Together, they traversed the world, visiting all seven continents and numerous countries and islands. A true world traveler, Marlys' adventurous spirit and curiosity for life were evident in her experiences.
A dedicated educator at heart, Marlys devoted her 35-year career to teaching third grade at Sunnycrest Elementary in Kent, Washington and at Acacia Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona. Her unwavering commitment to shaping young minds earned her the respect and admiration of countless students and fellow educators alike.
Marlys was blessed with an abundance of love from her family, as well as a supportive network of friends. She is survived by her loving twin sister, Estelle, who resides in Florida; two sons, Mark (Barbara) and Greg (Chel); as well as two grandsons, Joshua and Jefferey, all of whom reside in Washington State. Additionally, she leaves behind five great-grandchildren, several nephews, nieces, and numerous cousins who have been touched by her kindness and generosity over the years.
The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at Brookdale Foundation House in Federal Way, Washington, as well as the compassionate staff at Franciscan Hospice of University Place, Washington. Your unwavering support throughout Marlys' journey made a world of difference for both her and her family.
As we mourn the loss of this incredible woman, we are reminded of the countless lives she touched and the remarkable legacy she leaves behind. Marlys' spirit will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will continue to inspire us all to live life with courage, compassion, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure.
Rest in peace, dear Marlys, until we meet again in heaven. We love you and will forever hold you close in our hearts.
