This is  Bill Lawrence, I have a lot of good memories of Mert sitting on his sailing vessel. He and a friend joined us on a cruise from Olympia to Juneau on a predicted log race and we got as far as Nanaimo. Our first stop was gig harbor to fuel and we blew a head gasket!  We had to make a Uturn and Mert and I stayed up all night to fix the head gasket. We were up to arm pits in Oil and watched the other racers go by that morning while having lunch at the Tilow Tavern. Since we had very serious engine problems while working on that we didn't catch up with the race until we landed in Bellingham Washington. We made it straight to Bellingham and with such a beautiful day we just left the race at that point and we went right straight to Nanaimo.  Straight shot and we were there long before the other racers made it. That is where Mert and his friend bailed out and they flew back to Renton.  From there Bobbie and I cruised on to Desolation Sound and then cruised back home on the Hassayampa. Bobbie shares she has a lot of fond memories of Mert and his brother. Mert was always a pleasant companion,  really great company and we always love being with Mert.

Mert was such a nice man. My mom and he just met by chance. Outside a grocery store one day. Praying for your family, they must miss you.

My grandpa was an extraordinary man.  He was well read- could devour books by the dozen on any given week.    He loved a good National Geographic and watching Jaque Caustei.  He traveled alot with his brother Garner, and always made fast friends wherever they went and had great stories to share when they returned.  
Grandpa was a machinist by trade and a damn fine one and would always take time to talk shop   He cooked the best breakfast one could imagine, he canned and made his own wine.  He whittled, he sketched and he  gardened, and oh  what a garden he could grow.  I remember how I lived to pick green beans and radishes from the garden and then bringing them in to my grandma and washing them up. 
I liked being in the garden with Grandpa when I was little, was nd he built me a step stool so I could be "taller" and  see what he was doing in the greenhouse.  
So many things my grandpa was- they just don't make em like him anymore it seems.  He always made time and my fondest memories where the nightly sits with him in his big rocking chair where we would sit together side by side and watch tv- and he would tickle my arm until I fell asleep.  He was the best any grandkid could ask for.  Rest in peace my sweet Grandpa.  Kiss grandma for me.  I love you.
