Norma Jean Clayton

Norma Jean passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, independence, and unforgettable stories. Born on January 1, 1936, she grew up shaped by the quiet resilience of her mother, Anna, and the deep affection of her father, who lovingly called her “Norma Jean.” From the very beginning, she carried a spirit all her own—vibrant, determined, and unafraid to forge her own path.

At just fifteen, Norma married her first husband, Don, and together they welcomed two daughters, Theresa and Connie. Even in her early years, she showed the fierce independence that would define her life. Her home was lively and full of character—at one point she raised parakeets, and for a time the family even had a mischievous pet monkey named Chico, who delighted in stealing lit cigarettes right from her mouth.

After her divorce from Don, Norma stepped boldly into the workforce to support her girls.

She met Bob while working at the Riviera Bar, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with laughter, devotion, and a beautifully blended family. Together they welcomed their daughter, Shellie.

Never one to leave a dream unfinished, Norma returned to school as an adult to earn her high school diploma—an achievement so inspiring it was featured in the local newspaper. She went on to become a visionary businesswoman, opening and operating several daycare centers. She poured her heart into creating safe, nurturing spaces for children.

In retirement, Norma and Bob settled in Clearwater, Florida, where they enjoyed sunshine, ocean breezes, and the quiet joy of their golden years. After Bob’s passing in 2001, Norma Jean carried on with the same grace and strength that had guided her throughout her life.

Norma lived boldly, joyfully, and unapologetically. She was a storyteller, a caretaker, a rebel, and a woman who refused to be defined by anything but her own spirit.

She is survived by her children Theresa and Shellie, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandchild and all those who were lucky enough to be loved by her. Her presence, her laughter, and her stories will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
