Patricia Ann Childs, our Patti, passed away on Saturday, June 1,2024 in Kent, WA. She’s now with her dear husband Glen and all the loved ones she missed who have gone before her. She loved many and was loved by many. She will be missed terribly… "Every life is noted and is cherished, and nothing loved is ever lost or perished."
Patti was born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She was the first child of James (Mac) and Irene (Gjerde) McDowell. Mac was a career US Army serviceman and served his country with Irene and their young family in tow to many duty stations during Patti’s early life. Patti was always proud to share that she was privileged to be a “Military brat”!
Patti enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at The Boeing Company. She was a diligent, hardworking and thorough employee who worked her way up the ranks. Her dedication and work ethic was recognized by many leaders across the Boeing company. She retired from Boeing as the Deputy Director of Security and Fire Protection. She was a force to be reckoned with and a leader admired by peers and those who worked for her.
After retirement, her joy to begin a new adventure with Glen was sadly taken from her. But Patti found new joys in coaching her younger brother, Kevin in every special needs event she could. From bowling, to basketball, to softball and of course many, many Special Olympic events over the years.
Eventually Patti slowed down and nurtured her joy of gardening. Her yard was truly a beautiful landscape to behold. She spent many happy hours in her oasis.
But the hope of a long twilight of the golden years slipped from Patti’s grasp before she could enjoy it. These last few years Patti was not “our Patti” any longer. But despite the disease that siphoned the life from her body and mind, Patti never lost her love or smile. The strength she always displayed in life was shining through to the end. We are heartbroken to lose her, but she remains in our hearts until we see her again…"Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories."
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Patti joins Glen, her parents Irene and Mac, her brother Mike, her niece Angela and granddaughter Kassi. She leaves behind her siblings Steve (Lonnie), Cathy (David) Terri (Ed) Kevin, her stepson Tim (Michelle) granddaughter Hailly, nieces, Kim, Christina, Kala, Evie, Josie, Heather, Amy, Angel, Laci and Jodi nephews, Jeremy, Jeff, Eric and Duke and many great nieces and nephews and dear friends that she loved with all of her heart.
If you feel moved to donate, please honor Patti’s memory by donating to Alzheimer's Association @ Fight Alzheimer's and Dementia or to Special Olympics.
