Patricia May Smith

August 10, 1927 – July 25, 2026

Patricia May Smith, lovingly known as "Pat" to many and "Nana" to her family, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 25, 2026, at the age of 98.

Born on August 10, 1927, in Seattle, Washington, Patricia was the daughter of Lillian Patricia Richardson and Frederick Fischer Deppman.

On August 19, 1950, Patricia married the love of her life, Charles Arnold Smith, in Seattle, Washington. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love. They were blessed with three children: Susan (Smith) Westcott, Robert Smith, and Colleen Smith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy was caring for those around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Smith) Westcott; her grandchildren, Evan Westcott and his wife Inese Westcott, Aaron Westcott and his wife Safaa Westcott, Leah Westcott, Calvin Smith and his wife Maria Smith, Ryan Braaten and his wife Sherice Braaten; many great-grandchildren; and her half-sister, Darlene Walmsley.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Arnold Smith; her son, Robert Smith; her daughter, Colleen Smith; her beloved twin brother, Victor Frederick Deppman; her brother, William Richard Deppman; and her parents.

She attended school in Seattle, where she often delighted in sharing stories about being classmates with the grandchildren of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a young woman, Patricia worked at the Dime Store in downtown Seattle, then at the American Can Company during World War II, and later as a Lead Machinist at Boeing. During those early years, she enjoyed attending USO dances and roller skating. It was at a roller-skating rink in Seattle that she met Charles Arnold Smith, beginning their love story that would last the rest of their lives. She was a hardworking woman who took great pride in everything she did.

A devoted woman of faith, Patricia was an Episcopalian whose trust in God guided her throughout her life. Her faith was reflected in the kindness, compassion, and grace she showed to everyone she met. She loved sharing stories and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. She made lifelong friends wherever she went, but her family was always the center of her world.

She treasured time spent at the family's beach home in Lilliwaup, WA, on Hood Canal, where countless memories were made. She also loved attending her grandchildren's school and sporting events, and celebrating every milestone, big or small. Her unwavering support, gentle spirit, and generous heart touched countless lives.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with her. Her legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love lives on through her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
