Paul was born in Berlin, Germany, on July 13, 1947, to U.S. Air Force Major Walter Robert Berger and Katharine Harris Berger.
He received a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Kansas and later a master's degree in engineering from George Washington University.
He worked at several aviation companies before joining the Boeing Company where he held various positions for more than 30 years.
In 1977, he married Judy Sophie Hobson, and they reared a daughter and son.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 35 years. He is survived by his daughter Sherolyn and son Nathan of Renton, and his brother Neil Berger of Washington, DC.
