Our sweet mother Pauline “Peggy” Hiersche returned to her heavenly father February 16, 2019. She passed away after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Pauline embraced life, its’ challenges and opportunities. All that knew her felt her kindness and generous nature. She was born to Tom and Bertha Ballard February 20, 1925 in Holtville California. The family returned to New Pine Creek California shortly after she was born. Her father was a share cropper and even though things were tough she had fond memories of her time there.
She attended a one room school house with her older sister and many cousins. The family later moved to Alturas California where Pauline graduated from Modoc Union High school. She worked at Modoc General Hospital as a nurses aid before enlisting in the Women’s Army Corps (medical) in 1945.
While serving in the military she met and married Glenn F Hiersche May 17, 1946. After the war they moved to Bremerton Washington. Pauline received her beautician license in 1947 from the Cinderella Beauty College. They relocated in Seattle Washington. There she worked for the House of Edwards in Seattle. She was employed at Boeing for 30 years. When she retired her coworkers gave her a great party citing that 3 plant closures were anticipated; Everett trembles; Seattle in near panic! After her retirement she was able to travel and spend quality time with her grandchildren. She was a regular at the Renton Senior center until she enter assisted living
Pauline and Glenn had 2 children, Ed Hiersche and Nancy Hiersche Orthel. Pauline was a member of the Skyway Veterans post 9430 and the Skyway Methodist Church. During her lifetime she served on many committees that made a difference in the community she lived in and in the lives of many. She was an informal adopted mother to several of Ed and Nancy’s friends, especially Jane Jeffery Gearhart, Gary McMillan, and Sally Nordwall-Echols. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William, a sister Virginia and her husband Glenn. Pauline is survived by her children: Ed (Sandra) Hiersche; Nancy (David) Orthel; her grandchildren; Aubrey (Cody) Jeppesen, Erich Hiersche and a great grandchild Merek Hiersche.
Funeral services will be conducted at Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home 350 Monroe Ave Ne, Renton Washington March 16, 2019 at 11:00am. Immediately following the funeral there will be a graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Association at alz.org in honor of Pauline’s fight with the disease.
