Ronald Lee Fox ~ Born in Larned, Kansas to Raymond Fox and Ruth Linthacum, Ronald Lee Fox was the eldest of five children. As a child, Ron grew up in the countryside surrounded by farm animals, wheat fields, and vegetables which he sold for extra money. Ron attended Larned Senior High, where he played chess and was an avid member of the debate team.
Upon graduation from high school, Ron served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. Following his service in the Marines, Ron came back to Larned and attended Barton County Community College to study economics. Ron then joined the Coast Guard where he served as a Storekeeper, and became known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his duties. After moving to Seattle in 1979, he worked at several small companies doing accounting and bookkeeping. He also spent time in the Coast Guard Reserve (from which he retired) and as a tax consultant, while simultaneously managing his own company, Luvimin Enterprises.
In 1969, Ron married Jan Christianson and they had two children, David and Neil. They moved from Kansas to Virginia after joining the Coast Guard, and eventually to the Seattle area. He married Luzminda Doctolero in 1990 and became the stepfather to three daughters, Neida, Clara, and Paia.
Ron is a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA), and is one of the founding members of VVA Chapter 423 in Snohomish County. He served as the organization’s treasurer for many years, and was close friends with many of his brother veterans. Ron is also a co-founder of the Vietnam Service Foundation of Washington. Under this foundation, Ron supported the homeless meal program at St Martin de Porres Shelter in Seattle, where he and Minda prepared and served many meals. The foundation is still active in sending packages to soldiers in Afghanistan.
Ron had several hobbies. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cable television, dancing, and genealogy. He loved spending time with his five grandsons, and spent many hours with them playing cards, dominoes, and chess. Throughout his final days, Ron never lost his ability to greet people with a “Good morning”, appreciate an internet joke, and give burr rubs to his grandchildren. In spite of his most difficult times, Ron was convicted in his beliefs and loyal to his family. On May 22, 2018, he died at home after a long period of health issues.
Ron is survived by his wife Luzminda, and their five children: David, Neil, Neida, Clara (Daniel), Paia (Craig); five grandsons: Charlie, George, Anton, Mateo, and Emmett; mother Ruth, brother Stephen (Alma) and sisters Susan Fox and Elaine (Cliff) Musgrove.
Ron will be missed dearly by his friends and family. Luzminda and family are extremely grateful for the love and support shown to them so generously by family and friends. Please join them in celebrating Ron’s life and sharing stories about how he touched us all.
