Ruth Kasowski passed away at her home with family by her side in Buckley, Washington on March 26, 2020. She was born on August 16, 1939 in Valley Township, Minnesota to John and Julia Hanson. Ruth grew up in Grygla, Minnesota and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1958. She was employed as a telephone operator from 1958 to 1966.
On April 4, 1964 Ruth married the love of her life Phillip Kasowski of Casselton, North Dakota. They moved to Dickinson, North Dakota where she continued to work as a telephone operator. In 1967 Ruth and Phil, along with their two children Jeff and Jodie, moved to Maple Valley, Washington where they later built their first home. On July 15, 1969 and September 22, 1970 they welcomed Mande and Phillip (PJ) to their family.
While raising her kids, she often had her hands full with taking them to their sporting events, cooking, and working at Sheppard & Nelson Electric, their family owned business. You would often see her taking care of her of grandchildren who she loved so very dearly.
Ruth enjoyed taking her family camping, hunting, and fishing in their motor home; including the great times going to casinos. Ruth enjoyed gardening and you could always find her working in the yard and tending to her flower pots. Her most joyous occasion was becoming a grandmother and great grandmother. She deeply loved her grandkids and great grandkids and always had a special touch with them. Ruth was a very generous and fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She always had a smile on her face and we are very grateful for all her love. She will remain in our hearts forever.
Ruth is survived by her children Jeff of Auburn, WA Jodie (Terry) of Cle Elum Mande (Ken) of Buckley and PJ (Cari) of Washougal. She has 5 grandchildren: Kayla, Rachel, Cole, Jake, and Jared and 2 great grandchildren, Aidyn and Ellie. Ruth has 1 brother, Norman Hanson, 2 sisters, Betty Robinson and Delores Moe.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Hanson; husband, Phillip Kasowski; 1 sister; Edna Moe; 3 brothers; Harold, Kenneth and Leland Hanson.
Due to the Coronavirus a “Celebration of Life” will be held in the future, date to be determined. Mom’s final resting point will be with her husband, Phillip at the Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent WA. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Pierce County, with a very special “thank you” to Sarah.
