

The fifth child of Willie Joe and Hattie Turner, Sam was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana. A graduate of East Carroll Parrish High School, it was there he met his wife of 57 years, Naomi Morehouse. They were married in Toledo, Ohio. Together, they travelled the world while Sam served in the U.S. Army. The Turners moved in Renton in 1977, which was the final stop of their military career.
Having served 22 years and received multiple commendations, awards and medals, Sam was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. After serving in the Army, Sam began a long and established career in law enforcement with The Boeing Company. During his tenure at Boeing, he received the highest security clearance afforded a civilian and was a member of the security detail when both Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton visited the Boeing plant.
Sam is survived by his two daughters – Anita (Michael) Phillips and Audrey (Mario) Rodriguez, five grandchildren – William Joseph Phillips, Jonathan Charles Phillips, Samuel Jeffrey Phillips, Fortuné Turner Rodriguez and Naomi Elise Rodriguez, two great grandchildren – Desmond Kanai Phillips and Tatum Jolie Phillips, four siblings – Jimmie Turner, Georgia Blalock, Bernice Boykins and Bruce Turner, and numerous nieces, nephews, close family and friends.
Sam in preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Turner, his parents and four siblings (Marguerite, Henry, Nellie Mae, and Willie)
Visitation will 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Greenwood Funeral Home with funeral service 1:00 pm friday at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Baptist Church, 4519 NE 10th Street, Renton, WA 98059 with committal at Greenwood Memorial Park.
