With deep sorrow and profound gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Thelma Soria O'Francia Aquino, who entered eternal rest on February 27, 2026, at her home in Renton, Washington, surrounded by her family and beloved grandchildren.
Thelma was born on January 5, 1947, in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Bert and Paz O'Francia, who preceded her in death. As the oldest of ten children, she naturally became a pillar of strength, guidance, and love within her family. From an early age, she carried a deep sense of responsibility for her siblings, nurturing bonds that remained strong throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Estrella Tankersly, Mina Molina, and Bert O'Francia Jr. She is lovingly survived by her siblings Amor O'Francia, Sandra Mullet, Darlene Hauck, Brenda Lucas, Joel O'Francia, and Rodney O'Francia, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories.
On June 5, 1970, in Seattle, Washington, Thelma married her beloved husband, Florante Aquino, whom she endearingly called “Lakay.” Together they built a life centered on family, the enjoyment of life’s blessings, and a steadfast commitment to one another. Their marriage was a true partnership filled with love, devotion, and shared experiences. Through the many seasons of life, they supported one another with loyalty, laughter, and enduring affection.
Thelma was a proud and loving mother to Melissa Aquino, Jonathan “Jojo” Aquino, and Christy (Aquino) Lopez. Her greatest joy in life was being a doting Grandma to her treasured grandchildren: Mattias Lopez, Donovan Lopez, Zoe Lopez, and Alessandra Lopez. She adored them beyond measure and cherished every moment spent together—family vacations, celebrating milestones, sharing meals, or simply enjoying their laughter. In her final moments, she was surrounded by the family she loved most and was lovingly led to Heaven by her granddaughter Alessandra—just as she had wished.
Thelma had a vibrant spirit and loved to travel. She especially enjoyed vacationing to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Las Vegas, and the Philippines. She loved cruising, exploring new destinations, and enjoying good food. She also found excitement playing slot machines at local casinos, delighting in the thrill and joy of the experience.
Thelma loved cooking and sharing good meals, and her home was often the gathering place for large family parties filled with laughter and stories. She also cherished time spent on Vashon Island with her family, where she enjoyed the quiet beauty of the wilderness and the peaceful moments it brought. Whether hosting celebrations or simply bringing everyone together around the table, she made every gathering feel warm and special.
Thelma was known for her strong will and determination. She could be wonderfully stubborn at times, but it was that same strength of character that helped her care for her family, overcome challenges, and stand firmly for the people she loved. Her resilience, honesty, and unwavering spirit were part of what made her so deeply admired and loved.
Thelma’s life was defined by her devotion to family, her generous heart, and her joyful presence. As the eldest sibling, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, unity, and unconditional love.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are comforted knowing that she left this world surrounded by the family she loved most. Her spirit lives on in every family gathering, every shared meal, and every story told in her honor.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
