Bill was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on August 9, 1948, to Florence and Arthur Kennedy. He attended Saint Mary’s High School, South Amboy, New Jersey, and was a graduate of King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he and Marguerite Doyle married and started a life together on the west coast. They lived in Southern California as well as Bellevue, Washington, where they raised their family.
Bill began his career in the CBS mailroom in Los Angeles in 1973. He quickly rose to producer at the CBS News west coast bureau, where he became a regular contributor to the CBS Evening News, CBS Morning News and Sunday Morning. His work took him across the country and around the globe. Bill went on to work as an independent news producer at all the major networks, earning an Emmy nomination and receiving the Edward R. Murrow Award as a producer on NBC’s Nightly News. Later in his career, Bill worked in media consulting as well as entertainment, where he wrote and produced both series and made-for-television films.
Most importantly, Bill was a loving husband and father. He considered his family his greatest achievement and was happiest when spending time with them, watching movies, following the Mariners, and exploring the Northwest. Family and friends will remember his lively sense of humor, quick wit, and keen intellect. Bill was an avid reader and lifelong learner, as well as a skilled photographer and videographer, and talented writer and storyteller. He will be dearly missed.
Bill was predeceased by his father, Arthur Kennedy, and mother, Florence Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marguerite; sons Eric and Sean (Jamie); brother Arthur; and sisters Maureen (Charles) and Karen.
