

Beatrice Marie Ek, age 94 passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. She was born in Crandon, Wisconsin on November 28, 1918 to Adolph and Mame Biermeier. Bea lived her childhood in the town of Crescent at the Hat Rapids Dam. She married Kermit Ek October 1938 in Rhinelander; he preceded her in death on June 28, 1982. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and belonged to the parish Women’s club, where she enjoyed working on bazaars and luncheons. Bea liked watching sports on t.v. especially baseball games and playing cards. Much of her life she was a homemaker except for the 16 years she spent as a waitress at the Claridge. She was proud of being the oldest and longest resident of Phoenix Villa where she associated with many wonderful people through the years.
Beatrice is survived by her three daughters; Dolores Saumer of Wisconsin Rapids, Susan (Larry) Reno and Patricia (Mike) Vlahakis both of Rhinelander, three grandchildren, Matt Saumer, Chris Saumer and Michelle (Paul) Venzke and two great grandchildren, Caleb and Noah Venzke and a sister, Dorothy Reiser.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her brothers, Ray and Ed Biermeier.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11:00am at Nativity of Our Lord – St. Mary’s site with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until the time of mass at the church. A luncheon will follow after the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
