

Dorothy D. Vancos (nee Asmundsen), age 93, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 10, 2014, at her home (the Packer house) after much loving care. She was born July 25, 1920 to Roy and Goldie (Belanger) Asmundsen in Rhinelander Wisconsin. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1938. She worked for Montgomery Wards, Pepsi Cola, and Attorney Walter Kay.
She married Anton “Tony” John Vancos on February 12, 1944. Dorothy loved God and people exemplified by prayer, generosity and hospitality. She was an excellent cook and baker. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. She was an avid swimmer and once saved the life of a toddler at Town Line Lake. She was secretary and treasurer of Saint Mary’s Womens group. She was an enthusiastic card player and belonged to card clubs from high school until last week. She loved to watch the Packers play and her daughter Susan joyfully scream when they scored.
She is survived by three daughters Roberta (John) Monty of Elroy WI, Mary (James) Thom of Freeport IL, Susan Vancos of Rhinelander, one son Dennis Vancos of Bozeman MT, grandchildren Chad (Carrie) Monty of Holman WI, Todd Monty of Holman WI, Ben Monty of Madison WI, Michelle Thom of Freeport IL, Michael Thom of Freeport IL, step-grandchildren Donne (Steve) Scott of Aberdeen SD, Jaison (Tess) Leroy of Portland OR, great grandchildren Carter, Caden and Rowan Monty, and brother Doug Asmundsen of Wausau WI. She is further survived by other loving family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Joyce McCrery and Arlene McKas, brother, Roy Asmundsen, and grandson Matthew Thom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Nativity of Our Lord ~ St. Mary’s site with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating. Burial will follow at Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until the time of mass. A memorial has been established in Dorothy’s name and may be given to her family.
