

Ella Loretta Shimkus, age 90, died, Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Rennes Health and Rehab Center with her family by her side. Ella was born September 25, 1923 to Joseph and Emma (Drexler) Malsavage in a one room log cabin in the Township of Newbold with Dr. Westgate attending. She attended Wildwood School in Newbold and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1941. Loretta married August A. Shimkus on December 11, 1942. She worked at Cutler Hammer in Milwaukee and Rhinelander Paper during WWII. Also she worked at F.W. Woolworth National Tea Co., she was a cook at Pied Piper, Holiday Inn, Country Squire and the Rhinelander Country Club. She was a member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, ECW, Rhinelander Woman’s Club, St. Mary’s Hospital Aux. Corp, VFW Aux 3141 for 33 years, being President for 15 or more years, held various other offices also, worked the Newbold election board for many years, and was a life time resident of Newbold.
Ella is survived by her two sons; August T. and Brian Joel (Pam) Shimkus both of Rhinelander, her granddaughter, Jessica Kay Roe of Rhinelander, grandsons; Brian Joel (Steffie) Shimkus and August T. Shimkus both of Rhinelander, great grandson, Carter Joel Shimkus of Rhinelander, niece, Susan (Mac) McCoy, nephew, Christopher Malsavage of Rhinelander and cousins, Jim and John Suzda, Bonnie and Barb of Eagle River.
Ella is preceded in death by her husband August, her parents and a brother, Andrew.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Augustine Episcopal Church with Father Dean Einerson officiating. Visitation will one hour prior to service at the church.
