
Gene A. Martishus, age 87, of Rhinelander, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Friendly Village Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was born to Antone and Margaret (Dauba) Martishus in Chicago, Illinois on August 25, 1926. Gene moved to the McNaughton area when he was 12 years old. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He loved reloading ammo and sharing his garden vegetables with friends and family. He worked at the paper mill for 37 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Lake Tomahawk VFW. Gene was well known for his rendition of the “Sow Song”, he coached Little League and Babe Ruth. He took care of his Wife V. Fae as she struggled with Alzheimer’s for many years.
Gene is survived by his children; Jeannie (Dick) Amelse of Wausau, Samuel (Tami) Martishus, Jim Martishus, and Mary Feck all of Rhinelander, grandchildren; Rick, Jaime, Rob, Jodi, Amy, Tara, Brenda, and Bobbi and 18 great-grandchildren, he is further survived by many family and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, wife V. Fae, and sister, Victoria Karastas.
