
Jack Phillips, age 78, of Rhinelander, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Friendly Village Nursing Home. Jack was born March 12, 1934 the son of Joseph and Hattie (Benkowski) Phillips. He attended Rhinelander schools graduating in 1952. After graduation he served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Jack spent ten years on the Rhinelander Police Department, twelve years as the Oneida County sheriff, and ten years as an investigator for the Oneida County Department of Social Services. He retired in 1990. Jack was a member of the VFW and the Wisconsin Sheriff’s Association. In his leisure he was an avid reader and enjoyed gambling.
Jack is survived by his children, Martin (Karen) Phillips of Florida, Jake Phillips of Rhinelander, and Patty Fessenden of Rhinelander. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Joe and Clemens.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 from 12:00P.M. until 2:00 PM at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
