Marie Catherine McRae

Marie Catherine McRae, age 90, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Pine Manor Nursing Home in Clintonville, Wisconsin. She was born on March 3, 1922, in Cudahy, Wisconsin to Fred and Mary (Susedik) Chermak. She graduated from Antigo High School in 1939 and attended Milwaukee School of Business for two years.

She married James A. McRae on July 16, 1941, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pelican Lake, WI where her parents owned and operated the Pelican Lake Hotel. They lived their entire married life in Rhinelander, Wisconsin where they raised their six children.After raising her children, Marie worked for Rhinelander Supply retiring after 10 years so that she could travel with her husband, Jim, wintering many years in Arizona and Las Vegas. She was a remarkable seamstress; was involved in volunteer and civic activities in Rhinelander throughout her life, and while her health prevailed she loved to read, cross-stitch, and play bridge with friends.Marie was a caring and giving personality who will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her six children; Carole Clure of Stevens Point, Joanne Reimer of Clintonville, Linda (Dan) Sonsthagen of Overland Park, KS, Mary (Alan) Schwoegler of Madison/Harshaw, Jean O’Donnell (Jeff Harvey) of Phoenix, AZ, and James (Sarah) McRae of Neenah, her brother, Fred Chermak, of Colgate, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband, Jim in 2001, and son-in-law, Chuck Reimer in 2010, preceded Marie in death.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, St. Mary’s site in Rhinelander, WI. Visitation will be Friday morning at the church from 10:30AM until the time of the mass.
