Dr. R. Lawrence Wilson died Monday evening, Oct. 21. A funeral is planned for noon on Dec. 6 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Rd., in Dallas, where he had been an active member since 1980.
Dr. Wilson was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and served three tours of duty in Vietnam between 1967 and 1971, for which he received a Bronze Star Medal with an oak leaf cluster, an Army Commendation Medal with an oak leaf cluster, and other awards and citations. He was also called to active service for Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Col. Wilson retired from the Army in 1997 after being stationed at Ft. Bliss, Ft. Hood, and the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
He had a 20-year private practice as an oral surgeon in Richardson and was a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American Dental Association. After retiring from private practice, Dr. Wilson gave his time to train students as a clinical adviser at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry.
For a time, Larry was an award-winning beer maker and a certified national beer judge.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Wilson; his son, Adam; and the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Zoë and Ethan.
Gifts in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
