Antonio (Tony) Bustos Jr. was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach who left a legacy of inspiration and impact that will forever endure. Tony was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in the heart of El Segundo Barrio, a community that held a special place in his heart.
Tony’s early years were marked by his passion for both academics and sports at Bowie High School, where he excelled both in the classroom and on the field. Tony was not only a top student academically but also a remarkable athlete, lettering in four different sports during his high school years. It was then that he crossed paths with a remarkable woman who would become his partner in life for the next 44 years. It was at the neighborhood church where Tony met Elaine, the love of his life, his bridge of strength and unwavering support. After high school, Tony's journey led him to New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned a scholarship to continue his education.
While Tony was dedicated to his education and sports, the most important aspect of his life was his family. He was a loving husband to Elaine and father to five children, Melissa, Anthony, Jacob, Joshua, and Michael, and a cherished grandfather to eight adoring grandchildren, Julie, Nia, Lucas, Noelle, Roman, Sofia, Natalia, and Eliana aka Lil Toni.
He was preceded in life by his father Antonio Bustos Sr. and also leaves behind his mother Augustina Bustos and siblings Ana, Javier, Olga, George, Marina, Alfredo, Fernando, and Veronica. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was always there to offer support, guidance, and love to those he held dear.
In addition to his family, Tony's greatest impact was felt in the field of education and sports. For over 40 years, he dedicated his life to teaching and coaching, leaving a mark on the countless lives he touched. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the students and athletes he guided, who carry his lessons forward in their own lives.
Tony will be remembered as a remarkable individual who exemplified the virtues of determination, dedication, and love for family. He touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring legacy of inspiration. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, athletes, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tony may have left this world on October 27th, 2023, but his spirit and the impact he had on so many lives will continue to shine brightly in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
