Our father, the beloved Mr. A. J. Varnan (Ponnachan), was the youngest son to the late Mr. A. K. Jayadevan and Mariamma born on September 22, 1934 at Pariyaram, Mallapally to the Attakuzhikal family. After his primary (Pariyaram LP & UP School) and high school studies from Puthussery MGD High School, he went on to learn Civil Engineering and Surveying at Mallappally Central ITI. Once he finished his coursework at the institute, they hired him as an instructor. Pappa then received a special government scholarship to attend College of Engineering, Trivandrum to learn Civil and Mechanical Engineering to complete his studies.
Our dad met and married our mom, Varavarnnini (Ammini), on January 12, 1967, and enjoyed 36 years of blissful married life until our mom’s passing. Our family established its roots in Madras, where our dad worked for Addison Engineering and our mom worked as a nurse. In 1973, we immigrated to Garland, Texas, where Pappa worked at National Oilwell as a Quality Control Engineer for 20 years until the plant closed. Pappa went on to work at Sanden International, also in Quality Control, until he retired in December of 2002. Mummy worked at Memorial Hospital of Garland until her retirement, also in December of 2002. Our parents retired on the same day so they could spend retirement together, playing with their grandkids and enjoying their family, but Mummy was called to Heaven on December 3, 2003. Pappa continued his faithful promise to Mummy by being a wonderful, caring father, doting grandfather, and a compassionate and faithful church member till the very end.
Pappa is survived by his daughter, two sons, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pappa was a good son, faithful brother, loving husband, caring father, nurturing grandfather, and a trustworthy friend to all those that came in contact with him. Pappa always provided for our family and for everyone who knew him. He taught us to give, even when we had nothing. Pappa touched so many lives, and so many people will never know how their lives were changed by our dad because he never sought out recognition for his acts of kindness. The Lord had a plan for Pappa when he was born - to be a faithful steward of God and a hero to all. Looking back on his life, it is clear that he has fulfilled his duty faithfully. Now our Lord and Savior has called our beloved back to his right-side where he can finally be with Mummy for eternity. Pappa has always taken care of those around him; now he will be held in love and everlasting peace. Gone but never forgotten, our hero will go to his heavenly home. We look forward to being with him once again.
