Audrey was born in Galena, Illinois, to Alvin and Myrtle Buman (Metzger). She graduated from Galena High School and began nursing school, where she met the love of her life, Gordon Swanson, one of her patients. They married in 1947 in Rockford, Illinois, and shared a beautiful life together, living in both Illinois and Wisconsin before eventually settling in Texas.
A devoted homemaker, Audrey found great joy in raising her four daughters: Nanci, Marcia, Debra, and Wendy. Audrey was both a strong and nurturing presence in her children’s lives. She was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she made many lasting friendships and remained actively involved until the church dissolved. Her faith was deeply important to her, and it guided her throughout her life.
Audrey loved to travel, especially with Gordon and their close-knit group of friends. Together, they enjoyed cruises in the Caribbean, tours of Europe, and even a trip to Israel. She was always eager to learn and grow, taking classes in pottery and embroidery, two of her favorite hobbies. Audrey also gave her time generously, volunteering at Methodist Richardson.
Audrey is survived by her daughters Nanci, Debra, and Wendy; her grandchildren Jason Shives, Jeremy Shives, Amanda Locus (Mark), Scott Perkins, and Vanessa; her great-grandchildren Addison and Conner; her sister Arlene Seeberg; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her parents, daughter, Marcia; grandson Nicolas, and sisters Marjorie and Carol.
Audrey will be remembered for her unwavering faith, love of family, adventurous spirit, and generous heart.
