Betsy Carol Richardson was born on August 28, 1943 in Dallas, Texas.

Betsy spent her formative years in Irving, TX where she graduated from Irving High School. She was further educated at Texas Tech University and the University of North Texas where she attained a Master’s in Education.

On June 25, 1966 she married the love of her life, Dennis Richardson, and began a 52-year journey filled with fun, family, and happiness.

Her primary job was as a world-class mother, but she also held down a side job as a full-time teacher at Terrace Elementary in Richardson, TX where she was beloved by her co-workers and students.

Betsy was elegant, charming, dignified, and fun-loving. Her outer beauty was matched by her loving kindness, consideration, and generosity. Betsy loved gardening, baking, and sewing, and she always kept a beautiful home.

Prior to Betsy’s 50th high school reunion, she wrote these words about herself:

"I've really had a pretty normal, regular life. I guess I could share that I have touched both Paul Anka and Frankie Vallie, but that's about as exciting as it gets. I've traveled to Paris and England and love all things English. My favorite thing has been being a mother, and my secret desire was to be Martha Stewart. My daughter has told me that I'm a damn goddess, and my teaching friends believe that I was Cleopatra in a former life (for reasons best not repeated). But, of course, they are prejudiced.

She was taken away too soon for everyone who knew her. On July 6, 2018, after a courageous fight with cancer, Betsy passed peacefully into the night. Surely heaven is better for her arrival.

Betsy is survived by her loving husband Dennis, devoted daughter Suzanne, and supremely grateful son Marcus. Siblings Janice (husband Eldon), Jimmy (wife Mary), and Fulton (wife Charlene) will miss her immensely, but take solace in knowing their sister is in a better place alongside their adoring parents Ruth and James Deaton. Betsy also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Her son Marcus said that his mother was the best person he has ever known.

Her daughter Suzanne best described her shortly before her passing: exceptional.

Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E Irving Blvd., Irving TX 75060

I met Betsy in junior high school and we had fun! I doubt any two girls could have been more imaginative, have fun, and yet stay out of trouble as much as we did. Well, mostly we stayed out of trouble. As Betsy would say, "ha!" Betsy grew into a creative, classy, highly ethical woman. We drifted in and out of each other’s lives over the years, but we always remained connected. She was a dear friend and I will miss her. She was the calm to my turbulence. I’m relieved she is in heaven and suffering no longer, but still, her day came too soon.

My aunt Betsy has always been kind, selfless, and giving. One of my favorite memory's of my aunt Betsy was seeing the love and effort she put into putting together my bridal shower , along with some other lovely family members, at the Chocolate Angel last year. My aunt Betsy went above and beyond from helping get the guest list, the cake, to the most beautiful flower arrangements and giving advice. This is just one of the many times Betsy has poured out her love and generosity to not only me but so many others as well. I love you and you will be missed.

I was lucky enough to marry into this family and have Betsy as my sister-in-law. I was young and a little overwhelmed when two years later I became a mother to our first son, Chris. Betsy bought all the bedding for his crib, it was yellow gingham with balloons in the corners. The bedding was gorgeous and far outside of our modest budget at the time. Chris is 36 now but I will never forget how grateful I was to Betsy for helping to make his crib just perfect. That sums up Betsy perfectly; doing whatever she could to make things better for those who were lucky enough to know and love her. I love you.

What a winsome, beautiful smile - Betsy's trademark. Though I haven't seen her since high school, her beautiful picture looks just like I remember her looking. Her kind spirit that fanned her faithful smile was surely with her through this unexpected and sad time for family and friends. I count myself 'blessed' to have called her my friend. Peace-filled memories to everyone.
