Betty Whaley Thomas, 93 of Dallas, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018. The family will be accepting guests at Sparkman Funeral Home (Richardson, Texas) from 2:00pm-3:00pm on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm following the visitation in the Sparkman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery.
Betty Lorraine was born on May 17, 1925 to Rosa Hendricks Whaley Mays and William Earl Whaley. She also had a stepfather, Albert Clifton Mays. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Andrew Thomas and their son Jason Andrew Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Leigh Thomas Priebe (Bill); son, Jacob Paul Thomas (Donna); son, Stuart William Thomas (Lanette); daughter-in-law, Katherine Hostetter Thomas; niece, Lori Tabor Sparks (Joe); nephew, James Mark Tabor (Cory); six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous great-nieces, step-grandchildren and many dear friends.
Betty thoroughly enjoyed life; she was a curious person and had many interests. She loved gardening and flowers, especially roses. Betty loved playing bridge and dominoes (42), reading, shopping and good deals. She also enjoyed working puzzles, eating ice cream, cooking and the fine arts. Betty loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Rangers and was proud of her country. She was caring and empathetic as well as tough and tenacious. Betty was an inquisitive person who loved learning and valued education. She especially loved her family; her children were her life, and she was an excellent mother and grandmother. She had high standards for her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of our family and she will greatly missed.
