

Carole Speer Jenkins died at the age of 83 on Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Plano, TX. She was born on April 11, 1930 in St. Joseph, MO to Leroy Jasper Speer and Lois May Speer. Carole graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO and graduated with an Associates Degree from Tyler Junior College. She married Elmer Blackburn Jenkins on December 3, 1948, and lived in Tyler, TX and Richardson, TX during their 65 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, Carole is survived by her daughter, Susan Jenkins McCain of Dallas, TX, who is married to Richard Barto McCain, and her two grandchildren, Marc and Laney McCain. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Leigh Speer, also of Richardson; her Sister-in-Law, Charlotte Dewey Jenkins of Dallas, TX; her nephew, Paris Jenkins of St. Joseph, MO; and, her niece, Tanama Dawn Ernst of McKinney, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Robert Leroy Jenkins and her Brother-in-Law, Marion Robert Jenkins.
Carole lived in Richardson until her death and, like her husband, worked most of her career in Banking where she was highly respected for her industry knowledge and operational success. Among her many professional accomplishments was being named Whose Who in American Women multiple times over her 40+ year career. In addition to excelling in her career, she led an exemplary life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and unconditional love to her family and those who knew her, all of which she imparted on her daughter, Susan. Carole’s Son-in-Law describes her as a person of amazing strength, having overcome several extraordinary adversities during her life, yet handling each with incredible grace and character. He further said that if only the earth’s population was filled with those possessing her qualities, the world not have problems of any significance.
Visitation will be held for friends at Sparkman Funeral Home at 1029 S. Greenville Ave in Richardson, TX on Wednesday, August 28th from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be held at Sparkman Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29th at 10:00 AM, officiated by David Sutton. Internment will follow at 11:15 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX, also officiated by David Sutton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
