Carrie was born on July 11, 1963 in Abilene to Leslie Charles Strange and Marilyn Janette Hooker. Carrie graduated from Cooper High School in 1981 and began a 32-year career in television broadcasting at KTXS and retired from WFAA Dallas. Carrie witnessed some of history’s best and worst moments from the chair at her audio console. She worked with countless celebrities, politicians and, her proudest moment, with ABC’s Peter Jennings. Carrie’s greatest joy was being among friends. Animals were very near and dear to Carrie’s heart and filled her life, especially Little Boy and Samantha. She loved watching football and tennis, was a distinguished racquetball player, avid swimmer and loved the outdoors, especially fishing with her dad in Colorado. She enjoyed riding her bike, playing a round of golf and boating with friends. Art was a passion of Carrie’s and she excelled in building stained glass windows and creating flower art projects for those she loved. Her beautiful creations adorn the homes of friends and family. Her love of art extended into a side business, Fine Art Sales, of which she was very proud. Carrie is survived by her mother, Janette Hooker, a brother Biff Strange, step-father Gary Hooker, step-sister Denise Walters, extended family, and many great friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Strange. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Taylor Jones Humane Society or Rescue the Animals, SPCA. Carrie’s close friends and family would like to express their gratitude towards the doctors, nurses, caregivers and hospice staff that cared for her, especially Amy Dorsey, Amos Davis, Todd Hill, Sharon Clark, Greg Cox, and the teams at Medical City Dallas and UT Southwestern.
