Conrad Alexander Nagus, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Texas on May 13, 2026. Born on February 26, 1941, in Chicago to Alexander and Irene Nagus, Conrad was raised with his younger brother in Chicago’s large Polish Catholic community, where faith, family, tradition, and hard work were central parts of everyday life. He attended Catholic schools throughout his youth, pursued college studies for several years, and honorably served in the Naval Air Reserve.
In 1967, Conrad married Sheryl (Sherry) McLaughlin beginning a loving union that would span nearly 60 years and together they raised three children. They spent their early years in the Midwest before a job transfer relocated them to Dallas in 1978. In 1983, Conrad and Sherry started their own business supplying packaging products to high tech companies; still a family-run company after 43 years. Conrad enjoyed his work immensely and above all valued the relationships he built with both customers and suppliers over the years.
He was a personable and inquisitive man who never met a stranger. His family lovingly teased him that at the gym, his jaw got a bigger workout from talking than the rest of his body. He never passed up the chance to strike up a conversation, share a laugh, or make a new friend, and his gift for connecting with people was one of the many qualities that made him so memorable. He took pride in presenting himself professionally and loved wearing a crisp button-down shirt and tie to the office. He was not too happy when “casual Fridays” became popular in the workplace.
Outside of work, Conrad found great satisfaction in caring for the yard. Pruning trees and shrubs became something of a specialty for him. Whether in the office or in the yard, Conrad was meticulous.
Although a hard worker, he loved to have a good time and a little mischief. A true prankster at heart, each Christmas, he delighted his grandchildren with a silly gift wrapped in endless boxes, making the fun last as long as possible. He also enjoyed supporting them at their sports games and activities.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; his children, Chandra (John) Garvey, Shelly (Andrew) Welch, and Andy (Christine) Nagus; and eight cherished grandchildren, Caroline (Matt), Emily, Lindsey, Anna, Taylor, Allison, Joey, Sean. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Nagus of Missouri, sister-in-law Maureen Hutchcroft of Iowa, and seven nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson, Texas, on June 1, 2026, at 10:30 am. Rosary in the chapel at 10:00 a.m.
