Dexter Anthony Hooks

He was born on December 1, 1965, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to Willie Herman Hooks and Wilma Lean Hooks. Dexter was raised in Hughes Springs and "Green Street", Texas, where he developed strong roots and lasting friendships.

Dexter attended Hughes Springs High School and graduated in 1984 followed by a couple years of college coursework. He lived initially in east Texas, then Oklahoma City (he was there for the Federal Building bombing of which he had vivid memories), and eventually Dallas. He built a long and dedicated 35 year career in the restaurant, catering, and grocery industries, working with Whole Foods Market for more than 15 years.

In 1997, Dexter met his future partner and husband Randy Zoetewey in Dallas, Texas. While they had no children, the couple shared a deep love for animals and over the years cared for and cherished five beloved dogs.

In his spare time, Dexter enjoyed gardening, entertaining family and friends, doing crafts, enjoying cooking shows particularly on the Food Channel, home improvement projects, traveling, and spending time loving on his dogs. He will always be remembered as a supportive listener, a caring friend, a loving person, and a true social butterfly.

Dexter was preceded in death by his father, Willie Herman Hooks; his paternal grandparents, Herman and Susie Mae Hooks; and his maternal grandparents, R.C. and Nina Mae Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory his husband, Randy Zoetewey, and their dog Eddie; his mother, Wilma Hooks; his sister, Sharon Evans; his brothers, Martez Hooks, Tony Hooks, Kenneth (Laura) Hooks, and Rodrick (Myshell) Hooks; a host of nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins; extended family; and an abundance of dear friends.
