She was Dolores to her family, DeeDee to her friends, Nana to her grandchildren, Aunt Dolores, and, of course, Mom. Born to Sicilian parents, Dolores was the youngest of six children. She was closest with her next sibling, Connie, who babysat her and then spent many adult hours on the phone. With such an abundance of older “teachers,” she grew up quickly. Dolores was demure and shy to those she did not know but was very strong and social with those in her circle. She loved life and was always ready for a get-together or even a good prank. Dolores was the best sport!
She was a graduate of St Patrick’s grade school and Ursuline Academy, class of 1944. Mom made lifetime friends at St Patrick’s, including Patsy McKool Barton and Genevieve Kimber. At Ursuline, Dolores would meet her very best friends, Cathryn Ventura Colgin and Catherine Stanton Cook. Mom is once again driving that Ursuline bus to pick everyone up and they are all having the most joyous party!
Mom made a trip to San Antonio with one of her friends and met Ed Pitman, an Air Force veteran, with whom she married in 1953 and had three children, Lana, Julie, and Gary. Ed worked for the airlines and they were all able to travel the world together. Later her son, Gary, married a beautiful Indonesian, Elisabet Halim, and they made Mom a grandmother to Joseph and Sophia. They were the brightest highlight of her long life!
A first-generation American, Dolores owned her own small business, was an original member of her chapter of the Catholic Daughters for over 60 years, a Brownie Leader, a movie and television aficionado, and was the best mom and grandmother. We will tremendously miss her laughter, food, and love.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents Giovanni (John) Danna (1876-1964) and Lana (Nellie) Danna (1886-1971); her siblings Anthony, Rosalie, Joseph, CD (Cosmos Damian), and Constance (Aunt Tootsie).
She is survived by her children Lana, Julie, and Gary; daughter-in-law Elisabet Halim; grandchildren Joseph and Sophia; and a very long line of nieces nephews, cousins, and friends everywhere.
We have tremendous, heartfelt appreciation to the following for their wonderful care and love; Pleasant Manor Staff in Waxahachie; Custom Care Hospice; and All her family and friends near and far.
