

Don O’Neal , age 75, of Plano, Texas, passed away March 8, 2017. He was born in Mexico, Missouri. Don graduated from Pasadena City College with an Associate in Arts Degree in 1975. He was married to Carol Herbst on December 25, 1987.
Don served in the United States Air Force from 1960 – 1964. Don had a career in credit collections in his early years, but also had several entrepreneurial endeavors throughout his life. In 1985, he and his wife, Carol, had a successful mail business center and they retired in November of 1995. Don had a passion for the stock market and baseball cards as well as other collectibles. He was a coupon king. Every year making sure everyone in the family had a Passbook. He loved his family and was devoted to “the love of his life”, Carol.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Cheryl Zapata and husband Joe, Donna Wheeler, Richard O’Neal and wife Kelly, Matthew Herbst, and Mark Herbst and wife Tanya; grandchildren, Zapata: Eli and wife Mindy, Alex and wife Savannah, and Erik, Wheeler: Jonathan, Michael, Jordan, Kristen Bordofske and husband Jarrod, O’Neal: Holly, Austin, Jackson, Mark Herbst: Hannah, Matthew Herbst: Dane, Dillon and Stephanie Sue; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Isaac Zapata; sister, Elsie Fullerton; and sister-in-law, Mary Van Zeeland.
Don is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard O’Neal, Goldie Luthen, Louise Browning, Selva Blueball and Nora Faye Newton.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 9:30am at Sparkman Funeral Home, followed by a chapel funeral service at 10:30am. Interment will be at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 1:00pm with Air Force Honors.
