Dorothy Crawford Shackelford, widow of John Earle Shackelford Jr., was born on September 12, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia. She entered eternal life in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the age of 77. Dot was a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama) and of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. During her lifetime she held various positions with Baptist organizations. Dot worked for the Tarrant Baptist Association in Ft. Worth, Texas, as secretary to Bruce McKeever at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, and ultimately retired from the Baptist General Convention of Texas in Dallas. After her marriage to John, she taught Texas history and later substituted in the Richardson ISD for ten years. Dot was preceded in death by her father, Raleigh Crawford Sr., her mother Olive Kilpatrick Crawford, and her husband John Earle Shackelford Jr. She is survived by her son Greg Shackelford, her daughter Jill Shackelford Statham, Jill’s husband Jerry Statham, her beloved grandsons Jackson and Jet Statham, and her brother Raleigh Crawford and wife Donna. Dot lived in Atlanta, Georgia as a child; Memphis, Tennessee as a teenager, and in Dallas, TX as an adult. In 1977 Dot and John joined First Baptist Dallas where she has been a member for the past 43 years until her death. Dot’s family was important to her—both her immediate family and her extended family. She had many friends who enriched her life. She never stopped learning and growing as a person. Dot was a lady of integrity whose “life verse” was Romans 8:28. She lived her life believing that God was in complete control of EVERYTHING. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. The main goal in her life was to make a difference in the lives of people.
