

Edith (Edie) Droney Gimlin, of Dallas,TX, died Thursday, July 2, 2015. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. When Edie was 5, the family moved to New London, CT, where she resided until her early 20’s when she moved to New York City to model with Barbizon Modeling Agency. In 1946, Edie was married to Charles K. (Chuck) Gimlin in Bartlesville, OK. They resided in Bartlesville, and had two children, Linda Gimlin Sykes and Bill Gimlin.
During Edie’s growing up years in New London, she developed a love of baton twirling, became a champion winning many contests throughout the Northeast and in high school became Drum Major for the Oswegatchie, CT Fife and Drum Corps. She continued her love of baton twirling when she became a twirling teacher in the junior high and high schools of Bartlesville, OK. She also taught privately and was always thrilled with her “little twirlers” that marched in the Christmas parade each year. The Gimlin family was members of First Methodist Church and later East Cross Methodist Church.
In 1988, Edie moved back to Connecticut where she lived until moving to Scottsdale, AZ in 2009 to be near her daughter and then to Dallas where she lived until her death.
Edie will be sorely missed by her survivors who include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Arnold Sykes of Richardson, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Allena Gimlin of Bartlesville, OK; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Winn Droney of Hendersonville, NC; six grandchildren: Melissa Skinner, Stephen Sykes, Michael Sykes, Tiffanie Hardage, Corey Gimlin, Krista Gimlin, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Edie was preceded in death by Chuck Gimlin, her mother Valerie Roose Droney Skjeie, father Stephen Droney, sisters Lillian Linicus and Marge Farrow, and one great-grandson, Asher Knox Sykes.
Her memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 18th at Stumpff Funeral Home 1600 SE Washington Blvd. Bartlesville, OK 74006 A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 1:30, Tuesday, July 28th, at Treemont Retirement Community, 5550 Harvest Hill Road, Dallas.
