

Born on December 17, 1926, Florence grew up in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Highland Park High School. She continued her studies at Newcomb-Tulane College in New Orleans, where she was a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and received her degree in Psychology. She later received a teaching certificate and, still later, her Master’s in Education from Texas Woman’s University.
On May 27, 1949, she married the love of her life, Vincent G. Ahern, with whom she shared a devoted marriage and a family filled with love. Together they raised six children: Michael Joseph, Margaret Ann, William Kevin, John Vincent, Alice Marie, and Andrew Brian.
Florence dedicated her professional life to education, teaching in the Richardson Independent School District for many years, sixth grade at O. Henry Elementary and fifth grade at Skyview Elementary. She was remembered by her students as a patient, inspiring teacher who encouraged curiosity and a love of learning.
Proud of her family’s heritage, Florence was both a Daughter of the American Revolution and a Daughter of the Republic of Texas. She carried forward her legacy of resilience, faith, and service with grace.
She is survived by her six children, Michael Joseph Ahern, Margaret Ann Ahern Duffy, William Kevin Ahern, John Vincent Ahern, Alice Marie Ahern Stepneski, and Andrew Brian Ahern, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
Florence will be remembered for her strength, wit, deep love for her family, and her unwavering dedication to education and heritage. Her life was a gift to all who knew her.
