Fred Rankin Harrell

Fred Rankin Harrell, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on Thursday May 10, 2012 from complications incidental to lung cancer. Fred was born on January 8, 1923 in Olney, Texas, the only child of Dr. Frederick Schiller Harrell and Sarah Durham Rankin Harrell. Fred graduated from Allen Military Academy and then served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1943 to 1946. He graduated with an Associate Degree from Babson Business College in Boston, Massachusetts. Fred married his sweetheart Kay Wright on April 15, 1956 and moved to Dallas, Texas where they reared their three children. Fred was an entrepreneur and worked in oil and real-estate for 40 years. Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and serving in his church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his three children, Ronald Wright Harrell of Folsom, CA, Cindy Jane McGregor of Littleton, CO and Roxanne Woodbury of Crestwood, KY, 13 grandchildren (one of whom preceded him in death) and 4 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. Visitation will be on Monday May 14, 2012 from 9:00-10:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 14740 Meandering Way, Dallas, TX 75254. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 11 am. Interment will be Wednesday May 16, 2012 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah at 1 pm.
