Gladys Geneive (Lewis) Limkemann, 92, was called to her heavenly home from Plano, Texas on Saturday, August 10, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband Chaplain (Colonel) August Limkemann, daughter Julia Beth Moore, and granddaughter Lana Beth Fisher. Gladys is survived by daughter Beverly [husband Curtis Farmer] of Palestine, TX, daughter Barbara Joy [husband Loyd Evans, Jr. “Lee”] of Dallas, TX, and son-in-law Karl Moore of Asheville, NC. She leaves seven grandchildren: Sarah Morris, James Daniel Farmer, Kailan Wagler, Joshua Oak Farmer, Luke Evans, grandson-in-law Chad Fisher, and Tanner Moore. Fourteen knew and loved Gladys as their great-grandmother, Oma.
Gladys was born January 4, 1932 in Odell, Illinois to Charles Milton Lewis and Grace Lee (Groves) Lewis. After graduating from Saunemin High School, Gladys met August, a WWII Veteran and student at Wheaton College. They married on June 22, 1951. After completing his schooling at Wheaton and then at Bethel Seminary in St Paul, MN, Gus reenlisted in the Army as a chaplain, with Gladys at his side.
From her small-town farming heritage in the Midwest, Gladys supported her husband and raised their daughters in diverse urban and rural locations throughout the world. In America, she established homes in Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, California, North Carolina, Iowa, Florida and Texas, and traveled across most of the contiguous United States. In Germany she created a home on or near each of three US military bases and traveled in more than a dozen European countries. Gladys also held down the home front while Gus served in Korea and Vietnam. During his tour in Korea, Gladys added another stamp to her passport when she visited her husband in Japan. Throughout her life she gave of herself to the best of her ability. Three generations of her descendants, as well as other relatives and friends, now carry her memories and blessings forward.
She will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery next to her husband.
