Biography

Hai Thi Tran, nicknamed "Mui", was born in An Giang, Vietnam on December 31, 1930 to Quyen Van Tran and Loi Thi Nguyen. She was raised alongside one younger brother and two younger sisters in Rach Gua village on the outskirts of Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province. In 1950, she fell in love with Mr. Nam Lang and they got married. Two years later, they had their first daughter, Ca Lang. Soon after, she had two more daughters and her first son, Sanh Phuoc Lang. In 1960, the whole family moved to another village called Nui Sap, Hue Duc in An Giang Province and opened their first business. In Nui Sap, she had four more daughters and three more sons, totaling seven daughters and four sons. During the communist regime in the 1980's, she helped six of her children escape from Vietnam to the United States of America. Finally in 1992, she and her entire family reunited in California. In 2006, she moved to Garland, Texas where her children cared for her at home. She would peacefully pass away surrounded by her beloved family at Medical City Dallas Hospital on January 7, 2019.
