Henry grew up in University Park and attended University Park Elementary School and St. Mark’s School of Texas before graduating from the Governor’s Academy in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He went on to Stanford University, earning a degree in Economics in 1960. Shortly after, he proudly served in the United States Navy for two years as an air traffic controller aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. His time overseas, especially his many stops in Japan, sparked a lifelong appreciation for Japanese art and culture.
After completing his service, Henry returned to Dallas and followed in his father’s footsteps by founding a successful independent building business, a career he loved. For more than forty years, he built homes and commercial properties throughout the Dallas area, and he enjoyed every project.
He spent his leisure time hunting with friends on the deer lease in Llano, skiing, playing tennis, and, above all, golfing. He also developed a deep passion for West Highland White Terriers, raising Champion Westies and competing in national shows.
In 1967, Henry married Sally Whiting, and together they made their home in University Park, where they raised their four children, Meleah, Hunter, Allison, and Wendy. He loved traveling with his children, spending many family summers in Carmel before Sally’s passing in 1995. Henry was a devoted and proud father, supporting his children in every endeavor.
In 2006, Henry met Carol Casson on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They married two years later and shared twenty wonderful years together. Their life was filled with travel throughout Europe and North America, and they especially treasured time spent at their home in Santa Fe. They shared a love of art, music, history, and the joy of time spent with friends.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and May Hill; his stepmother, Dorothy; and his brothers, Spencer (Anne) and Macon Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Hunter Hill and Chris Bridges; his daughters, Meleah Artley, Wendy Johnson, and Allison Hill; and his granddaughter, Sally Liu.
A private family Graveside Service is planned. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
