

Mr. Garrison was born on October 8, 1920 in Somerville, AL to Percy and Onie Garrison. He spent his early years on a farm in Somerville, AL until they moved to Bessemer, AL. He attended college at Birmingham Southern College in AL where he studied Geology and Chemistry. Mr. Garrison attended graduate school at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and worked as a laboratory instructor in Geology until he received a job offer from the Corps of Engineers in Little Rock, AR in 1941.
Mr. Garrison joined the enlisted reserves as an Aviation Cadet in Meteorology and was called to active duty in October of 1942 where he served until he received his honorable discharge with the rank of Captain in May of 1946. He then returned to his civilian job as a Geologist for the Corps of Engineers in Little Rock, AR.
Hugh met Coyita Stovall in May of 1946 and they were married at the First Methodist Church in Little Rock; which is where they first met; on August 16, 1947. In December of 1947 they made the move to TX when Hugh was offered a job at the Corps Laboratory in Denison, TX. In 1968 Hugh was appointed to the position of Director of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Laboratory in Dallas, TX. He retired on February 29, 1980.
Mr. Garrison is preceded in death by his parents Percy and Onie Garrison. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Coyita Garrison; son Steve Garrison; daughter Linda (Garrison) Sloan; grandchildren Meghan Mosher, Kimberly Kendall, and Alecia Adams; and great-grand daughter Olivia Diane Kendall; Charlotte Marie Kendall, and great-grandson Payton Kendall.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Burial will be at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10:15 AM.
