Born in Lima, Peru on July 20, 1930, John arrived in Buffalo, NY at the age of 16 where he attended Buffalo Technical Institute. After serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War he continued his education at SUNY at Buffalo. On June 26, 1952, John married his soulmate, Joan R. Fitzgibbons. In 1960, the family moved to Dallas, TX where John started his lifelong career in the packaging industry. During that time he worked for Pollock Paper, St. Regis Packaging, Princeton Packaging and eventually, The JC Penney Corporation where he implemented all packaging design specifications. His career had him move from TX to PA in 1966, where he opened a new packaging plant and then back to TX in 1979. He eventually retired from JCP in 1998. As a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, John had served on the pastoral council, counted money from the Sunday offerings and was a 4th degree K of C. He fulfilled his love of building while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and was constantly re-modeling his own home. All who loved him knew that they may find a wall or door move anytime they visited!
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Jagielski and four children; Mark Jagielski & wife Nancy, (Parker, TX), Sandra Ackerman & husband Bill, (Richardson, TX), Steven Jagielski & wife Beth, (Rowlett, TX) and Christopher Jagielski & wife Leslie, (Orlando, FL). He was blessed with eight grandchildren; Jason Jagielski, Scott Jagielski, Kevin Jagielski, Luke Ackerman, Kelsey Ackerman, Jake Ackerman, Jessica Hammons, & Baxter Jagielski. John is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
Dad was a different father to each of us by giving us exactly what we needed. He knew that what worked for one didn’t necessarily work for all. He was known to tell you that “sometimes God closes the door, but when he does, he opens another…you just have to look for it!”
Dad… Call me when you get home!
