

John was born July 18, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas to Celia Mae Groth Knowles and Homer Knowles. He was the oldest of four children. He attended elementary and high school in Montana, Kansas. John became the head of his household at the early age of 13 when his father passed away in the Dust Bowl.
John joined the Army on June 12, 1944 and served until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1946. For part of that service he was stationed in the Philippines . He then attended Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kansas where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. On October 17, 1954 John married Helen Carol Hedden in Wichita, Kansas and they had three children. They moved to Wichita, Kansas and Wichita Falls, Texas before moving to Richardson, Texas is 1961. John worked for Magnolia Pipeline, Mobil Oil for 32 years. Throughout his career he worked on projects in Canada, Libya and Saudi Arabia as an engineer for Mobil.
John enjoyed tinkering with most any piece of equipment. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed working on the family car project for years
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Helen Carol Knowles of Richardson, Texas. His three children, daughter Lisabeth Anne Knowles Jones of Hampton, Virginia, daughter Dorinda Renee Knowles Herzog of Yantis, Texas and son John Merritt Knowles of Richardson, Texas. Grandchildren that survive John include Rosser Merritt Jones of Omaha, Nebraska, Katherine Brooks Jones of Charleston, South Carolina and John David Knowles of Richardson, Texas. John is survived by a brother Robert F. Knowles and wife Sandy of Salida, Colorado and sister Ruth Knowles Horton and husband Roy of Hugoton, Kansas. John is also survived by his faithful dog Killer.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Robert J. Jaeckle will officiate the service held on January 31st at 11:00 am at Sparkman Funeral Home. A reception for friends and family will follow the service.Honorary Pallbearers will be John David Knowles, Robert F. Knowles, Merritt E. Hedden, and Charles E. Herzog.
John Kent Knowles will be laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. God Rest His Soul.
