

Leonard Murray Stevens was born on March 22, 1923 in Yoakum, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2012. Murray was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Ruby Marie Stevens and his son, David Roy Stevens. He is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Stevens Rohde, his son, Leonard Murray Stevens, Jr., his wife of 23 years, Patsy Griffin Stevens; his brother, Texas H. Stevens, and his grandchildren, Angela Marie Chester, Jason Waynne Chester, Kevin Len Chester, and Katherine Marie Stevens. Also surviving Murray are two step-children, Elton Smith and Karen Stroker.
Murray grew up in Cuero, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&I University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Murray was raised in the Church of Christ and remained a faithful Christian for all of his years. He served as a Deacon in the Church for many years and participated in teaching Bible Credit classes. He loved to read his Bible and, even after he could not understand the meaning of the words on the page, he continued to open the Bible and read the words over and over.
Murray was a Veteran of World War II and fought on the front lines in Belgium. Throughout his life he remained very proud to have served his country.
Murray was a Petroleum Engineer and worked all of his life in the oil and gas industry. During his work life he served as a Senior Engineer, District and Area Superintendent, and Supervisor of Drilling and Oil Production.
Murray was a wonderful father and mentor to his children and a wonderful and loving husband to Marie and Patsy.
