She was born in Fredericksburg, Texas to parents Anna and Edwin Itz. Marilyn graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1951 where she was voted “Jolliest in Town”.
After graduating from Southwest Texas State Teachers College, she began a teaching career in Odessa, Texas.
In 1959, she married Arthur Lee “Bill” Batson in Fredericksburg, Texas. Although she grew up in the Fredericksburg area and he in Austin, they didn’t meet until they lived across the street from each other in Odessa. He had a boat and she liked to water ski.
She enjoyed yoga classes at the Odessa YMCA and fellowship at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord. She also loved walking at UTPB and was often spotted with her floral sun hat.
In 2016, she graciously agreed to move to Dallas to be near her children and grandchildren. This was a gift as they loved spending time more time with her - especially on Saturday mornings.
Marilyn is survived by daughter Jan Batson of Dallas, son Tom Batson and his wife Lisa and three precious grandchildren Blair Ann, Erika Mae, and Bradley Thomas Batson of Dallas.
She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Emmie Lou and Hubert Schwarzer of San Antonio, Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews who were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Batson, brother Herbert Itz and her parents.
