After a long illness, Mary Ann Morawey of Richardson, Texas, passed away on June 16, 2026. She was born on October 4, 1940, in Austin, Texas, to Louise and Sidney Pritchett. Mary Ann attended Austin High School and later spent a year at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
Later, she entered the workforce, becoming a secretary to a Texas state senator in Austin. During this time, Mary Ann lived on the Pritchett family ranch in South Austin, helping care for the chickens, cattle, and their beloved Brahma bull named Willie.
In 1964, Mary Ann visited her close friend Norma Smith at the Naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. There she met Michael Morawey, a Lieutenant (JG) in the US Navy. A whirlwind romance saw the two becoming engaged and then married on February 27, 1965, at the Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Submarine Base chapel.
Their first child, Craig, was born in December 1965 while Michael was serving overseas in South Vietnam. Their years together in the Navy brought both excitement and challenges as Mary Ann adapted to the life of a Navy wife during Mike's many deployments at sea. While stationed in Gaeta, Italy, she learned enough Italian to care for their children and manage the household for more than a year. She also embraced the opportunity for her, Mike, and the children to travel throughout Italy, Spain, Greece, and other parts of Europe.
Mary Ann gave birth to three more children—David, Anne, and Deborah. After settling in the Dallas area, she devoted herself to family life and raising her four children. She was active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church community through the Women's Guild, the Rosary Makers, and the church choir. She also volunteered as a school chaperone and assisted in the library at the school attended by Anne and Debbie. After retirement, she and Mike enjoyed several trips throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. She looked forward each year to the Texas State Fair, enjoyed game nights with friends, and loved watching Texas thunderstorms roll in.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, Michael; her son, Craig, and his children, Meghan, Ryan, and Jared; her daughter, Anne; and her daughter, Debbie, her husband, Kevin, and their son, Jake. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kathy; her nephew, Don, his wife, Melissa; and their daughter, Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, David, who passed from ALS, her brother Donald, and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, Texas 75081, at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 2, 2026, followed by inurnment in the St. Joseph Church Columbarium. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for light refreshments as we share memories and celebrate Mary Ann’s life.
