Mary Sue was the youngest of seven children; she was the youngest by eight years making her truly the baby of the family. They grew up in Rockdale, Texas which is a small rural town about an hour east of Austin, Texas. They had a cow and chickens in their large yard which provided the family with milk and eggs. Mary's oldest sibling was her sister who was 17 years older than her. Their family was very close-knit and always attended church as a family. The family moved to Temple, Texas when Mary was twelve years old.
Mary Sue Medart graduated from Temple High School and then went on to attend Hockaday Junior College for two years in Dallas, Texas. She spent one year there as a music major, piano being her instrument of choice. She moved to Austin, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education in 1951. She then went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Texas in 1974.

Family vacations were spent camping at various places and enjoying the outdoors and time together. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory numerous dear nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Her life was devoted to her husband, family, friends and her Christian faith. She belonged to Northway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a true disciple. Her personal summer-time hobby (when she wasn't teaching) was creating pottery pieces. She took classes and spent time on the "potter's wheel" creating pottery and then sharing them with her family and friends.
Her favorite place to be was with her husband Noyis Medart. When they were younger and the weather was good, they would go for a walk in the neighborhood after dinner. After eating and cleaning up, she loved to relax with a cup of decaf tea and watch some T.V. on the couch with her husband.
