Matthew R. Bedosky, 65, of Richardson, Texas, passed away in Richardson on January 8, 2019. He valiantly fought Kidney Cancer for the last 5 years.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held on January 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson.

Matt was born in Johnstown, PA to Matthew & Dorothy Bedosky on September 30, 1953. He grew up in New Jersey and went to school at Bridgewater Raritan East High School graduating in 1971. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Century University in 1992. He married Mary Ryan Bedosky on January 1, 1993 in Rochester, NY. He had a 35 year career in cable TV and telecommunications, owning his own companies, Nova Engineering, Telewave Sites and B & R Technology. He also worked for Cellular One, RAM Mobile Data and Metricom. In 2003, he started an online cigar accessory business that grew into a retail business in 2005 – Calypso Cigar - still operating today in Richardson.

Matt was involved in the local Communication & Vehicular Technology Society of IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers), earning the IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000 and IEEE Senior Member status in 2003. Matt was also involved in the Texas Cigar Merchants Association, serving as President for six years. He was a member of IPCPR (International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Assn.), having worked at the national level for the cigar industry as a volunteer lobbyist in Washington DC. He also volunteered at one time as an ESL teacher for the Richardson Adult Literacy Center. Matt was the consummate entrepreneur, building a cell tower in 1995 in Sansom Park, Texas with his business partner, Tom Nudd. At one time, he owned 43 acres in East Texas which was planned for a tree farm. His last project was the cigar shop, which he moved to its current location in 2016.

Matt was detail oriented and a counselor to many. He hated mediocrity. Once you earned his trust, you had it for life. He was fair, ethical and you always knew where you stood with him. Matt also had a sensitive side - his favorite color was purple and his favorite flower was Birds of Paradise.

He loved the beach – especially Grand Anse Beach in Grenada. He and Mary traveled there six times, celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary there in 2018. They also traveled to Costa Rica, Aruba and St. Kitts and also cruised to the Western Caribbean. The last trip they took together in July 2018 was a visit with Mary’s family in Minnesota and then a drive across South Dakota. They visited The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, The Black Hills, and Devils Tower in Wyoming. Of course, they had to stop at a shop in Deadwood, SD for a cigar!

Matt was really a “teddy bear” – he had a real heart for animals – especially his current dog Toby and Ginger, his wonderful Golden Retriever that passed in 2006. His human friends were very important to him too and he was known to hand out a cigar when needed to help the conversation flow!

Matt is preceded in death by his father, Matthew Bedosky Sr., his mother, Dorothy Bedosky, sister, Linda Robinson and nephew, Justin Bedosky.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ryan Bedosky; sister, Dorothy McMahon; brother, Darrin Bedosky (Kelley); mother-in-law, Helen Ryan; brother-in- law, John Ryan (Jody); nephews, Jason Robinson, Noah Ryan, and Luke Ryan; niece, Myah Ryan and grand nephew, Sebastian Bedosky. He is also survived by his dog, Toby.

The Bedosky family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Thomas Hutson & staff at Texas Oncology, Dr. Hans Hammers & staff at UT-Southwestern Medical Oncology, Dr. John George and Dr. Derek Williams at Methodist Richardson and the caring ER & ICU doctors and staff at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

Matt was a very special, unique person. He dearly loved his wife, Mary, and he told her that every day. They were a great team. They called each other “Mister Bee and Missus Bee”. They truly lived both the good times and the tough times together. Mary has comfort in knowing that Matt was loved by many and that he is no longer in pain. Rest in Peace, Matthew.

I’m the co-owner of a little brewery here in Richardson called Four Bullets Brewery.
Matt helped us get our start.
My brewing partner and myself were long-time customers of his little cigar shop on Plano Rd in Richardson.
He was very gracious and knew we were brewing beer and allowed us to come in to his business and pass out samples to his customers on many occasions and so many loved our beer. Many came up to us and said you guys make great beer, which gave me and Drew both the confidence to seriously think about opening our brewery ... which we did.
So we both give a lot of credit to Matt for helping us get our start and will miss him greatly.
