Maureen C Stephenson (Aunt Sally) was born July 12, 1925, in Richardson TX to J.C. Clark and Stella Mae Clark. The middle of three children she was nicknamed “Sally” by her brothers Willie, and Walter better known as “Joe” and “Jack.”
She was educated in the Dallas Schools system where she attended Vickery Elementary School and Anderson Bonner High School where she played basketball and ran track. She grew up in North Dallas in what was called the Old White Rock community near the original Mt. Pisgah located at Spring Valley and Preston Road.
“Aunt Sally” began her walk with Christ at an early age. She began attending Mt. Pisgah Baptist church in 1929 at the tender age of 4 and was baptized at the age of 14. After graduating high school, she married her classmate, Freeman Earl Stephenson and to that union 3 children were born. Sandra Diann, Michael, and Patricia.
A hard working woman, Aunt Sally worked as a Housekeeper for prominent families in the Old White Rock area including the Fields, The Chicks, The Sigels, and the Fishbeins. She was a staff member with the Dallas’ Rayleen millinery mogul in the downtown store and the hat factory and even worked as a Dallas County Bus Driver. Her tenacity and dedication eventually led her to corporate America where she began employment at Rockwell International. During her tenure, she started out as an assembly line circuit board worker and eventually was promoted to Instructor where she traveled and trained employees from around the world on circuit board protocols. She retired from Rockwell after 21 years of service. For Aunt Sally retirement simply meant more time to devote to helping others – especially young single mothers and the elderly. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, grand-dogs, gardening, reading, and sewing.
Aunt Sally will forever be known for her unwavering faith in God, wisdom, and her spiritual guidance. She found joy in studying the Word and in worship. She served in various ministries including the Women’s Ministry, Seasoned Saints Ministry, and the choir for over 60 years serving as President for many of those years.
An interaction with her was a glimpse into the goodness of God. Her love for her family was evident, as was her independence and her feisty but nurturing demeanor. She will forever be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her 2 brothers, William Earl Clark (Joe), and Walter Virgil Clark (Jack). She is also preceded in death by her son Michael Stephenson.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory 2 faithful daughters, Sandra Diann Stephenson- Brown (Doc), Patricia S. Walker, 3 nieces, Etella Belton (Jeff), Elyse Clark, Tammy Clark-Blackston (Scott), 1 nephew Clifford Clark (Shunda), 3 Granddaughters, Angela Stephenson, Tiffany Brown, and Andrea M Walker, 2 grandsons, and a host of cousins and other relatives.
