So very sorry to hear this news.  Mike was a good friend in high school that always made me laugh.  I loved his smile.  I am glad to see he had such a beautiful family.  I am sure you will all miss him dearly.  Count on my fervent prayers for him and for all of you.
Like Kathy Hayden, Mike reached out and called me a few years ago too.  I was so happy to hear from him and all about his wonderful family, etc.  We vowed to try to connect the next time my husband and I were in Dallas, but that just never happened.  Thanks Mike for touching base and for being such a great guy!  I'll be praying for you dude, and your family too! See you in heaven.

I am greatly saddened to hear that Mike has passed.  He was a friend in high school that always made me laugh and feel good. I see from all the pics that he had a beautiful wife and family.      I attended the funeral of a childhood friend yesterday. At only 57, Mike Chavoya passed unexpectedly, devastating his family and friends, including me. His death has affected me deep enough that I need to put a few thoughts on paper.
     Sadly,  I had not kept in touch with Mike through the years; but he took the time a few years ago to pick up the phone and reach out to me. He had just recovered from a previous heart attack and he told me, I almost died Kathy. It was shocking to us both and we reaffirmed a friendship long ignored.  I was honored and impressed he took the time to call. We talked over an hour catching up about his wonderful family, among other things. 
     I've learned those childhood bonds stay strong. We were great friends in the 6th and 7th grades, and therefore we owned a piece of each other's childhood memories in our hearts; those days when we did crazy things, felt invincible, and wondered now how we lived through it all. The carefree days before the Internet, cell phones, before crazed gunmen kidnapped children or shot innocent police officers. We loved listening to his brother play the drums back then, we felt cool. It was a great time to be a kid and our small group at Herbert Marcus Elementary felt connected in an innocent way that assumed the best of everyone.  Happily, Mike expressed he was in a good place during that call, and I was happy, and all was well, especially hearing God had given him a second chance at life. I never spoke to him again. I'm ashamed I never kept in touch. Mike, if you can hear me, please forgive me. I do care about you, immensely!
     On July 5, 2016, God saw fit to call Mike home. He characteristically gave his old friend and neighbor a smile and a thumbs up as he entered the ambulance that day for chest pains. Everyone expected him back home soon, just like before. However, that day a massive heart attack (a few hours after successful shoulder surgery), took his life in the back of an ambulance. 20 minutes of trying to revive him proved unsuccessful. 
     It may have been Mike's time to go, but no one who knew him was prepared for or even close to being ready to lose him, not This Young and maybe never. Especially Not his high school sweetheart, love of his life, beautiful and loving wife of 35 years, Pamela; nor his 3 wonderful, handsome sons who are just like him I was told (by Pamela). Mike has a huge, loving extended family, including grandchildren who absolutely adore him; and it was mutual! I learned he was considered an Icon amongst them. Everyone adored this bigger -than -life man and loved the fun of being around him. The funny prankster, always smiling man, who loved them all fiercely, and showed it daily with words of encouragement, phone calls, acts of service to help and motivate them, and most of all the generous man with his Time.
     Mike just knew his family and friends were his treasure here on earth. He was not the man chasing the almighty dollar, pouring himself into things. No, Mike worked with his best friend in a 2 man office, loyally and faithfully, making those around him smile and laugh even on the bad days. He was a happy man who loved God and was faithful to everyone God had blessed him with. Mike even knew his neighbors, at a time when most do not. He encouraged a young boy to attend college, and that now man says Mike changed his life for the better; and did attend college as a first generation boy to do so.
     Yes, Mike's life has reminded me that one person can make a positive difference in this negative world. Don't wait until tomorrow! We all need to make time for others, not only (but especially) for family, but also for friends who lead busy lives and may be encouraged by your call and thoughtfulness for remembering them. I know without a doubt those at the packed funeral, as well as the legions of those unable to attend, will carry Mike Chavoya in their hearts and minds forever! He was a deep-down good person, and the world could certainly use a lot more like him.  I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
     If you are reading this and you have not committed your life to Jesus Christ assuring your place alongside Mike in Heaven, (no matter what you've done), you can do so by praying this simple prayer: 
Dear Lord Jesus,  I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose again from the dead. I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Teach me how.  Guide my life and help me to do your will.  In your precious name, Amen"

Mike - You are one of Don's forever furniture friends. Our young familes shared some great memories together way back in the day and we will cherish  them a lifetime. You were an amazing person inside and out.

We are so sadden for the loss of Michael. He was the "Best Man" at my wedding and continued as a best friend miles away for years. Pamela, Tony and family, please know we aren't there to comfort you, but we deeply pray for all of you.  We are so sorry Jeff and Pam Cole  Buffalo,NY

The loss of Michael was so sudden and devastating. He was a special person to all who meant him and a special little brother to my wife Linda. Our hearts go out to Pamela, Jason, Christopher. and Michael. I know Linda and Liz are also hurting on the loss of their brother as well as all the family members. He was a special brother-in-law to me for the past 53 years and the ring bearer at  our wedding.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family and friends.  I lived next door to Mike back in elementary school.  He was a great friend and we spent a lot of time together back in the day.  What I remember most about him was he was always smiling and happy.

I know without a doubt in my mind Mike is now with our Lord and Savior. His body has been fully restored as he walks with his loved ones that have departed us previously. I look forward to the day we will once again meet in heaven. Who could have ever known the wonderful friendship we would find with each other when our paths first crossed some 45 years ago. Mike was family to me, my brother. The passing of Mike has left a huge void in all our lives. My thoughts and prayers are with his lovely wife Pamela, his three awesome sons Jason and his family, Chris, and Michael, His two sisters Linda and Liz and their families.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Our prayers are with you all.
